Alt-tags (or alt-text) are important when it comes to marketing and I cannot stress this enough when I work with clients on a digital marketing overhaul.
What may seem incidental is a missed opportunity for SEO within so many parts of your website. In basic terms, alt-tags are used to create a written explanation of a photo or graphic on your website. Search engines can't read photos but they can read alt-text that was created with the photo uploaded. An example is you upload a photo of roses in a park. The alt-text may says red roses in a park. For the optimal SEO approach you may want to add further detail such as the type of rose, specific location, or any other long-tail keyword for alt-text SEO opportunities. Beyond just being able to "read" the photo for SEO purposes, alt-text is also important for when a photo does not load to explain what should be there and for accessibility purposes for website audiences who utilize screen readers.
